HILDEGARD ELMA | Buchcover für japanische Autorin

In May 2026, a new book by Japanese professor and literary scholar Kai Gohara (郷原佳以) was published. The title of the book, translated into English, is Derrida’s Literary Imagination (original title: デリダの文学的想像力) and was published by Misuzu Shobo in Tokyo. In the book, Gohara examines the role of literature in the thought of the French philosopher Jacques Derrida (1930–2004) from the 1960s through his later work.

In collaboration with Galerie Andreae and the artist Hildegard Elma, the author and graphic designer selected one of Elma’s works from 2011 to adorn the book cover. More information about the publication can be found on the (Japanese) website.

Hildegard Elma (*1948) studied English and Music Education in Tübingen and Stuttgart, as well as Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart. In her practice, she consistently paints with broad, continuous lines using water and watercolor. In doing so, she works exclusively within the color world of the two primary colors, blue and red. Elma lives and works in the Black Forest.
