»Have you ever fallen in love with a clock?« On Norm and Deviation:

It could be that one day you wake up and can’t find the strength to get out of bed. Or perhaps you “just” break your right arm and are forced to train your left hand. But it could also be that you fall in love. You lose your footing in everyday life, and familiar places appear in a new light. These thought experiments make it clear that we often only reflect on norms and normality when they no longer apply.

The artists in the exhibition at KOLUMBA Cologne explore how norms arise and function. They examine and challenge them. Above all, however, they develop proposals that throw our thinking and actions off course and can be understood as deviations or alternatives—just like the clock by Finnegan Shannon, to whom we owe the title of our exhibition.
