The independent Biennale for Visual and Sonic Media düsseldorf photo⁺ focuses on the critical-poetic reflection of digitally and analogically generated audiovisual realities by artists.
The biennial is characterized by an approach to media that refers to a history in Düsseldorf and the Rhineland of the close interweaving of photographic images and visual art, of performance and its manifestation in documentation, technical advances and discourses analyzing these, as well as time-based media and their relation to societal questions, in order to build a bridge to the computer-generated visual and sonic worlds of the present.
With “On Reality” as its leitmotif, the 2024 Biennale for Visual and Sonic Media düsseldorf photo⁺ will feature exhibitions, presentations, concerts, talks, lectures and events in museums, collections, galleries, independent exhibition spaces and educational venues across the city, which are united by the fact that they deal in a wide variety of ways with questions and media that play a decisive role in our understanding of the current.
